A friend of a friend here in Holland is making a portrayal of an American who lives in the Netherlands for a university journalism project. I have been asked to be interviewed, and part of the interview is about my opinion about the U.S. presidential election.
I thought it might be interesting to ask all of my Americans friends/family to give input on the U.S. presidential elections that I can comment on. I think it’s much more real to get input from people living in the U.S., rather than the typical portrayals that are done by many foreign news media.
They are often way-off the mark because they tend to interview the extremes, and they do not try to place statements in context to the political leanings of those they are interviewing. For example, they will do an interview with an American about their opinion about gay marriage or gun control, but then they will only interview a conservative religious person or a member of the NRA, and neglect to mention that. Consequently, many people assume that all Americans have the same views.
Are any of you up for posting some comments (short statements, please) about the U.S. presidential election? I also think it would be interesting if you mention your political leaning, i.e., liberal, republican, progressive, democrat, far right, conservative, religious, stalinist, green, monarchist, libretarian, etc. If you are not sure of your political leaning, you can always give your equivalent of the Monster Raving Loony Party.
[Note: this interview is happening some time in the next week, so the sooner the better on your comments]
