My original post about handicapped parking was a bit of a rant after a tough time parking the last few years and being fed up with it. Since then, I have updated this post, also with information on how you can help. I have since moved most of this post to a website page, because I believe it is an important topic that we need to fight for! Please see the Handicapped Parking page .
The original post (rant)
It is a real pet peeve of mine, and many others, who struggle with finding handicapped parking, only to find a non-handicapped person using a space or someone blocking it. These people don’t seem to realise that they are often endangering someone and just being plain asocial and selfish!
They always seem to have some lame excuse for their behaviour, like “I was just going into the shop for a moment”, or “I couldn’t find a space and nobody was using it”, blah, blah, blah. What is even more shocking, is that some people get angry when I point out the handicapped parking sign to them.
Other than a few places, like at the local hospital, these spaces are not regularly monitored where we live. After much frustration, I decided to make cards to leave on their windshield or hand to people — hopefully so they will get the message!
